Watershed Discipleship Workshop

As we look toward a season of predicted drought and reduced water for irrigation in southern Alberta, this watershed moment brings our river system into sharp focus. We invite you to come together with other friends of the Wisdom Centre to explore the meaning of water in our lives and develop more considerate relationships with our watersheds as a source of life and hope.

“In one drop of water are found the secrets of all the oceans.” - Kahlil Gibran

During this one-day workshop, presented by Robin Galey, we invite you to: consider ecological justice issues affecting our Calgary waterways; be introduced to indigenous ways of knowing the water; explore the role of watershed discipleship from biblical and theological perspectives; consider your own role in supporting the water; and connect with others around water advocacy. You will also be introduced to three water-based prayer rituals to support personal and environmental healing.

Workshop leader Robin Galey developed her relationship with the Bow and Elbow Rivers while supporting communications for Calgary’s Water Safety Partners in the early 2000s. She has since earned a permaculture design certificate and masters degrees in theology and divinity. Robin currently guides Wild Church gatherings in Calgary and area, works as student minister near the Sheep River in Diamond Valley, and supports communications at Hillhurst United Church beside the Bow River in Calgary.

This workshop combines content from the Watershed Discipleship Workshop developed by KAIROS Canada and Watershed Discipleship: Reinhabiting Bioregional Faith and Practice edited by Ched Myers with Robin's own theological research.
