In the Beginning — Earth First Retreat

Falling in Love with the Earth: Community and Practices

Join Green Exodus and The Wisdom Centre as we seek to realign our relationship with the earth. This workshop will draw on meditation, the Japanese Tea Ceremony, a deep time walk, poetry, and more as we explore what it might mean to fall in love with this beautiful, fragile and mysterious earth.

Dates: 7:00 pm-9:00 pm April 26, 9:30 am -3:00 pm April 27, 2024

Location: St Laurence Anglican Church (5940 Lakeview Dr. SW Calgary, AB) and the nearby Glenmore Park.

Facilitated by Sarah Arthurs, M.Ed., R.Psych. (Retired)   

Co-hosted by Green Exodus and The Wisdom Centre

Weekend Schedule

Friday 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm: Gathering and Introductions

  • Empty Cup~Full Cup Spiritual Practices, Japanese Tea Ceremony, “Kneeling with Rumi”

Saturday 9:30 am - 3:00 pm: Earth Wander and Walk

  • Nature Meditation, Deep Time Walk, What do we mean by Fall in Love with the Earth?, Poet Guides and Poem making 

Note: Please bring your own lunch and water. Coffee and snacks provided.


Facilitator 

Sarah Arthurs M.ED is the Lead Animator with Green Exodus, an initiative which has been identifying  practices, seeding connections and developing programs to support our realignment in and with the Earth since 2020. This work is supported by the United Church of Canada Foundation and is affiliated with Ralph Connor Memorial United Church.  Sarah is the ED of the Calgary Interfaith Council, a retired psychologist, mother of two adult children and a member of Hillhurst United Church. She has lived with her neighbours at Prairie Sky Cohousing Cooperative since 2008.  She is currently infatuated with all things feathered and flying and is grateful to Rosie, a Havaneese poodle, who takes her outside regularly. Sarah was born in the land of the Maori people and grew up as an unknowing neighbour to the Tsuut’ina.
