The Wisdom Centre is pleased to welcome John Bell to Calgary Ancient and Ever New: Spirituality in the 21st Century.
Friday, March 22 at 7:30 pm. ANCIENT AND EVER NEW … an introduction to Celtic Spirituality
From the 5th century, there has been a distinctive spirituality developed in the Celtic nations by leading figures in religious movements and by lay people. Though allied to and part of the catholic church, the Celts had a greater fondness for the incarnation which they regarded as the key to how we relate to God, to each other and to the physical earth.
This lecture looks at some of the key insights with examples of ancient poems and prayers which speak with a vitality needed in today’s world.
This lecture will be followed by a Q & A and a complimentary wine and cheese reception.
Saturday, March 23 from 9:30 to 3:30 MUSIC, LITURGY AND IMAGINATION
These three issues are keenly connected. Imagination is not a bogus gift, but is crucial to all creative endeavour, not least in the Church. These seminars will consider the importance of the imagination in personal and social life, and look at how it can breathe new life into what we sing and how we pray; enabling the church to be a foretaste of the good things God has in store rather than a reliquary of the past.
All events at St. Laurence Anglican Church 5940 Lakeview Dr. SW.
Sunday, March 24 John will also be preaching at the 10:00 am service at St. Laurence.
Early-bird registration begins January 1 until March 1 – $100 for both Friday and Saturday. $25 for Friday only. $90 for Saturday only. After March 1, the combined 2-day price will no longer be available and Friday only increases to $35 and Saturday only to $100.
