Book Club Opportunity: The Wisdom of Your Body
Dr. Hillary McBride will be speaking in Calgary Dec 1-3, 2023 as a guest of The Wisdom Centre.
The Road Church and U of C Campus Ministry (CRC) knew this was an opportunity that couldn’t be missed, and so are inviting you to join with them in studying “The Wisdom of the Body”. They write:
So….let’s connect & learn together this fall by digging into Dr. McBride’s book!
Yes– there is irony in offering an “embodiment” invitation online, but we chose Zoom to make this as accessible as possible. We would like to offer a wide and gentle welcome to everyone who is curious about the wisdom our bodies hold. Our desire is to engage deeply and vulnerably with this topic, inviting lighthearted laughter along the way. And while the writing of Hillary McBride will guide our conversations, falling behind on weekly chapter readings will not be a barrier to participation. There will be no reading police! Each gathering will begin with an optional, mini embodiment practice.
Book: The Wisdom of Your Body: Finding Healing, Wholeness, and Connection Through Embodied Living by Hillary L. McBride
Dates: Mondays at 7:30-9pm Oct 2, 16, 30, November 13, 27 on ZOOM with the option to meet in person for an evening meal Dec 1 prior to attending the Dr. McBride event on Dec 1.
Who: This book club is free and open to all, with a particular invitation to the U of C community. We welcome participants of diverse ages & backgrounds, valuing the richness you will bring. Those from all faiths or no faith are most welcome! (If we receive more registrations than anticipated, preference will be given to those living in Calgary.)
Facilitators:
Pearl Nieuwenhuis, MA, U of C Chaplain, Spiritual Director & SoulStream Facilitator
Jacqui Mignault, MA, U of C Chaplain, Spiritual Director, Writer (Earth Advent & The Abbey Substack), Social Justice Advocate (Center for Public Dialogue)
Jess Andrews, BScN., MTS candidate (studying spiritual trauma), Pastor at The Road Church (Jesus-centered & affirming community in NW Calgary)
We use “Brave Spaces” guidelines and all three of our primary facilitators have training in listening circles and interfaith experience. All invitations to participate will be intentionally crafted to encourage space for trauma-informed choice and diverse understandings around spirituality. Break-out rooms may have additional carefully chosen facilitators. Each gathering will begin with an optional, mini embodiment practice.
As we anticipate the positive community that will emerge around this book club & Wisdom Centre event, our intention is to set the stage for additional experiential invitations in the New Year. Stay tuned!
